Solar Companies in OKC - 7 Questions to Ask Before You Sign in 2026

Comparing solar companies in OKC? Ask about the 2026 tax credit, who checks the roof, who flashes the mounts, and who answers when something leaks.

- By CRE Roofing, Warr Acres OK

The best way to compare solar companies in Oklahoma City is to ask the same seven questions of every one of them - starting with whether their numbers still assume a tax credit that ended. CRE Roofing is a roofing company that has installed residential solar since 2018, with electricians in house, and these are the questions we would want any homeowner to ask us, too.

1. Does this quote include the 30 percent federal tax credit?

If it does, and the system will be finished in 2026, the numbers are wrong. The federal residential solar tax credit for homeowners ended on December 31, 2025. The IRS treats the expense as made when installation is completed, so a 2026 system does not qualify even if a deposit was paid in 2025.

One path is left: third-party ownership. Under a lease or power purchase agreement, the company that owns the system claims a separate commercial credit that runs through 2027, and that should show up in your rate. Ask any company which option they are quoting and how the incentive reaches you. Our residential solar page explains this in plain language.

2. Who checks my roof before the panels go on?

Panels outlive shingles. If your roof has fewer than about ten years left, replacing it first is cheaper than removing and reinstalling the array later. Ask whether the company will inspect your roof, who does it and what happens if the roof needs work.

At CRE, the roof and the solar are assessed at the same visit.

3. Who installs and flashes the mounts?

An array is dozens of attachments through your roof deck. Flashing them correctly is roofing work, and leaks from bad mounts are one of the most common solar complaints. Ask who will be drilling into your roof and whether they install roofs for a living.

4. Who answers the call if the roof leaks near the array?

This is the question that matters in year five. When a leak shows up near the panels, a roofer may blame the solar company and the solar company may blame the roofer. Ask who you call, and whether that one company will own both the roof and the array.

If you already have panels from a company that has closed, read who services panels when the installer is gone.

5. Who does the electrical work?

A solar install ties into your main panel. Some homes need a panel upgrade first. Ask whether the company has its own electricians or subcontracts that part, and who handles any panel work. CRE's electricians are in house and also handle main panel upgrades.

6. Are the savings based on my actual bill?

Without the federal credit, the payback period is longer than it used to be. A proposal should be built on your real utility bill, roof orientation and shading - not a national average. If the savings look too good, ask how they were calculated.

7. What about outages?

Panels alone usually do not keep the lights on when the grid goes down. If outage backup matters to you, ask about battery storage and how it would be sized for what you want to run. See our page on battery storage and outage backup.

A quick comparison checklist

When proposals start piling up, line them up against this list:

  • Tax credit assumptions follow 2026 rules
  • Roof inspected, with a clear plan if it needs replacing first
  • Mounts installed and flashed by a roofing crew
  • One company to call for roof and array problems
  • Electrical work done by qualified electricians
  • Savings built on your real bill
  • Battery option explained if you want backup
