The first 72 hours

In this order. Most of what goes wrong with a hail claim goes wrong in the first three days, before anyone climbs a ladder.

1. Photograph from the ground

Gutters, downspouts, window screens, the air conditioner fins, the mailbox. Soft metal dents first and it is the easiest proof that hail of a given size actually fell here. Do not get on the roof.

2. Read your deductible before you file

Many policies carry a separate wind and hail deductible, and it is often a percentage of your dwelling coverage rather than a flat dollar amount. Check the declarations page so the number does not surprise you later.

3. Sign nothing yet

Not an assignment of benefits, not a contingency agreement, not authorisation for work "pending insurance approval". A free inspection should cost you a signature as well as a dollar.

4. Get it documented properly

Photographed on the roof, marked by slope, with the test squares an adjuster expects. Functional damage versus cosmetic is the whole claim, and it is decided by what is in the file.

5. Have someone meet the adjuster

We come back out and walk the roof with your adjuster, with our documentation in hand. That one meeting is where most of the disagreement gets settled.

6. Watch for the out-of-town knock

Storms bring crews who are three states away by spring. Ask for a registration number you can look up, and ask who answers the warranty call in five years.

What is different about us

We document the roof, and we will not touch your deductible.

Storm work attracts people who promise the claim before they have seen the roof. We photograph what is actually there, meet your adjuster on it, and handle the supplement paperwork with your carrier. You file the claim and you pay your deductible. If a roofer offers to make that part disappear, ask yourself who is really paying for it.

What we look at

Slope by slope, with test squares, and photographs of each one. Bruised and fractured shingles, granule loss at the gutter line, dented ridge caps and vents, damaged flashing and pipe boots, and the soft-metal evidence on gutters, screens and the air conditioner. Siding and gutters belong on the same claim as the roof when hail took all three, which it usually did.

We install Class 3 impact-rated shingles as a minimum and Class 4 is available. Carrier discounts for impact-rated roofing usually require Class 4 specifically, so ask about it while the claim is open rather than after it closes.

Storm damage - common questions

How fast can you get out after a storm?

Our Missouri line reaches the same team that runs the Oklahoma work, and we carry a substantial book of work in southwest Missouri. Call and we will give you a real date for your town rather than a maybe.

Will you cover my insurance deductible?

No. We do not absorb, waive or rebate a deductible, and we would be careful with anyone who offers to. The money has to come from somewhere, and it usually comes out of the scope of work you were promised.

You are based in Oklahoma. Does that matter?

Only in the ways that help. We hold a City of Springfield contractor license, #FL001717373, alongside Oklahoma roofing registration #80007347 - both current, both checkable. Missouri gets equal billing here rather than a mention at the bottom of a page.

Is my damage functional or cosmetic?

That distinction decides whether the claim gets paid. Cosmetic means it looks bad but still sheds water. Functional means the shingle has lost the granules that protect it and will fail early. We document it as functional where it is, with photographs and test squares, which is what an adjuster needs in order to approve it.

What does the inspection cost?

Nothing, and there is no obligation. If your roof is fine we will tell you it is fine - that is a real outcome, not a sales opening.
