Solar in Oklahoma in 2026: what changed.
The 30 percent federal tax credit for homeowners is gone. Most solar websites have not updated. Here are the honest numbers.

We are saying that plainly because most solar websites in this state still advertise the credit. If a quote you are looking at includes a 30 percent federal credit on a 2026 installation, the numbers in it are wrong.
The one path that is left
Third-party ownership. Under a lease or power purchase agreement, the company that owns the system claims the Section 48E credit - which runs through 2027 - and that shows up in the rate you pay. It is not the same as owning the array outright and it is not right for everyone, but it is the only remaining way a federal incentive reaches a residential roof. So does solar still make sense here?
Sometimes. It depends on your actual utility bill, your roof orientation and shading, and whether outage resilience matters to you. What it no longer supports is a payback claim built on a credit that does not exist. We will run your real numbers and tell you if it does not work.
Why a roofer should be putting the panels on
The roof comes first
Panels outlive shingles. If your roof has under ten years left, replacing it first is cheaper than removing and reinstalling an array later.
Every mount is a penetration
An array is dozens of holes through your roof deck. Flashing them correctly is roofing work, and leaks from bad mounts are the most common solar complaint there is.
One company, one warranty call
When a leak shows up near an array, the roofer blames the solar company and the solar company blames the roofer. Not an issue when they are the same crew.

Do I need a new roof before solar?
If your roof has fewer than about ten years of life left, yes. Panels last decades; removing and reinstalling an array to replace the roof underneath it is an expensive mistake. This is the one real advantage of using a roofer who also does solar - we assess both at the same visit.
Will solar panels damage my roof?
Not if the mounts are flashed correctly. Every penetration through the deck is a potential leak, which is exactly why the crew doing it should be a roofing crew.
