Solar Power in Oklahoma City - Check the Roof Before the Panels

Thinking about solar power in Oklahoma City? Check the roof first - remaining life, mount flashing, panel capacity - then run honest 2026 numbers.

Solar power in Oklahoma City can still make sense for some homes in 2026 - but before anyone talks about panels, someone should check the roof they will sit on. Panels outlive shingles, every mount is a hole in your roof deck, and pulling an array off later to replace the roof underneath is an expensive mistake.

CRE Roofing is a roofing company that also installs solar, with electricians in house. That combination is why we start every solar conversation on the roof.

First, the 2026 numbers changed

The 30 percent federal residential solar tax credit ended for homeowners on December 31, 2025. A system finished in 2026 does not qualify for it, even if a deposit was paid in 2025.

One path is left: third-party ownership. Under a lease or power purchase agreement, the company that owns the system claims a separate commercial credit that runs through 2027, and that shows up in the rate you pay. We offer third-party ownership and straight cash purchase. Read more on our residential solar page.

Without the homeowner credit, solar has to stand on your actual utility bill, your roof orientation and shading, and how much outage resilience matters to you. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not, and we will say so.

Check 1: How much life is left on the roof?

If your roof has fewer than about ten years of life left, replace it first. Panels last decades. A roof under an array that fails in five years means paying to detach the system, rebuild the roof, and reset the panels - work that could have been avoided with one decision up front.

On a free inspection we look at the shingles, the decking we can see, the flashing and any past hail damage, and tell you plainly how much life you have left.

Check 2: Who flashes the mounts?

An array is dozens of penetrations through your roof deck. Flashing those correctly is roofing work, and leaks from bad mounts are one of the most common solar complaints there is.

When the roofer and the solar installer are different companies, a leak near the array turns into each one blaming the other. When they are the same crew, there is one phone call and one company accountable.

Check 3: Can your electrical panel take it?

Connecting solar or a battery needs a panel with the right bus rating, main breaker size and a legal spot for the backfeed breaker. Some panels simply cannot host it.

Our in-house electricians check that on the site survey, before anything is ordered. If a main panel upgrade is needed, it belongs in the plan from the start.

Check 4: Do you want backup power?

Oklahoma loses power to ice, wind and storms. A home battery paired with solar can recharge during the day and keep chosen circuits running through an outage. We install Enphase and FranklinWH batteries. See our battery storage page for how we size around the circuits that matter to you.

Already have solar and need a new roof?

That is a detach and reset: the array comes off, the roof is rebuilt, and the panels go back on new flashings and are recommissioned. Because our electricians are in house, CRE does it as one company. Details are on our solar panel detach and reset page.
